Photographic holdings in the State Archive in Gdańsk comprise
about 200 thousand photographs. Photographs are either stored
in separate photographic collections or are included in the records
of local administration, associations and political parties. These
holdings belong to the largest and most fascinating in Poland.
Some of the most interesting collections are:
- Collection of Elblag photographs ( 1909-1943)
presenting the sights of the city before its demolition.
- Collection of photographs of the city and port
of Gdynia (1919-1945).
- Collection of NSDAP Kreis Danzig (1943-1944)
showing Gdańsk last months before commencing the evacuation
of its inhabitants.
- Collection of Jakub Deurer (1942-1944) containing
conservation documentation of the interiors of churches in Gdańsk.
- Collection of Walter Sutkowski from Berlin
(1892-1895) containing the sights of the streets of Gdańsk.
- Slide collection (1923-1944) depicting public
buildings and churches in Gdańsk, the development of the Gdynia
port and of Żuławy Wi¶lane. (You can see part of this collection

- Marian Dobrzykowski collection of photograms
(1945-1950) presenting unique images of people, inhabitants
of Gdańsk, after World War II.
The State Archive in Gdańsk possesses other interesting
photographic records, including the collection of photographs
of the Gdańsk Shipyard and the Voivodeship Committee of the Polish
United Workers Party in Gdańsk, which document social and political
changes in the Gdańsk region in 1945-1990.
