Cloisters and church records

The holdings of cloister and church records, illustrating the history of the Pomeranian community, are interesting materials for researchers. The most valuable holdings are cloister records, including well-protected documents granting land and privileges dating from XIII to XIX century. The records refer to monasteries and convents, e.g. Cistercian Monastery in Oliwa (1178-1829), St. Brygida Convent in Gdańsk (1376-1790), Carthusian Monastery in Kartuzy (1384-1752), Cistercian Convent in Żarnowiec (1257-1819) and Norbertine Convent in Żukowo (1209-1589). The largest part of the church holdings are the records of evangelical churches of the Gdańsk Pomerania, among them the records of General Consistory (General Konsistorium), Superintendentur and parishes dating from XVI to XX century. Also in the state Archives holdings are public authorities records with registers of citizens from East Pomerania. In these holdings one can find a number of public registers which are so interesting for genealogists nowadays.
